Serial Number Labels & Metal Barcode Tags
Overview:
Every piece different. We produce serial number labels and metal barcode tags where each unit carries its own number, barcode, or QR code — sequential serials, part numbers, UID strings, or data you supply in a spreadsheet. Built on anodized aluminum, stainless steel and brass. Material, finish and marking should be selected for the intended environment.

What "variable data" actually means
Standard labels repeat the same artwork. Variable data means the artwork stays fixed while one or more fields change on every piece — a running serial, a barcode encoding that serial, a part number, a date code, or a customer asset number. You send the list, we mark each piece to match.
We produce variable data by laser marking and chemical etching. Send your data as Excel (.xlsx) or CSV and we will return a proof showing the first, middle and last records before production starts.
Variable data is the backbone of durable asset tags and equipment nameplates that must stay unique across a fleet.
Code types we can mark
| Code type | Typical use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sequential serial numbers | Equipment, tools, fixtures | Start number and increment are yours to set |
| Code 128 / Code 39 barcodes | Asset registers, maintenance systems | Human-readable line printed underneath |
| QR codes | Link to a manual, service record or portal | Scan-tested before shipping |
| Data Matrix | Small parts where space is tight | Code size and scanning requirements reviewed for the project |
| UID strings | Defense and aerospace supply chains | We mark to the string you supply — see note below |
Supported code types on our line: Sequential serials, Code 128, Code 39, QR, Data Matrix, UID strings.
Materials and how long the marking lasts
Anodized aluminum
— the mark sits inside the anodic layer rather than on top of it. Material, finish and marking should be selected for the intended environment. Service life is confirmed for the intended environment. Temperature and chemical exposure requirements are reviewed for the project.
Stainless steel
— for washdown, chemical exposure and high heat. Etched or laser marked. A natural fit for industrial valve tags and process equipment.
Brass
— where a traditional look matters, or where the buyer's spec calls for it.

Serial number labels vs barcode labels — which do you need?
A serial number label carries a human-readable number. A barcode label carries the same number in machine-readable form, usually with the number printed underneath so a person can read it too. Most buyers end up wanting both on one piece: the barcode for scanning into the asset system, the printed number for the technician standing in front of the machine.
Choose serial only when nothing scans the tag. Choose barcode or QR when the tag feeds an asset register, a maintenance schedule or an inventory count.
What we need from you to quote
- Size and shape, or a drawing
- Material and finish preference — or tell us the environment and we will suggest one
- What changes on every piece: serial range, barcode type, or a sample of your data file
- Quantity
- How it attaches: Adhesive or mechanical fixing selected for the mounting surface

Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can every label have a different number?
Yes. That is what variable data marking is for. We produce each piece with its own serial, barcode or QR code from the data you supply, sent as Excel (.xlsx) or CSV. Batch size is confirmed after data review.
What is the minimum order for serial number labels?
From 100 pcs per design · best pricing at 500+ pcs
Does variable data cost extra?
Any data preparation, marking and verification requirements will be reviewed and included in the project quotation.
Can you encode our existing asset numbers?
Yes. Send the list in Excel (.xlsx) or CSV and we mark to it exactly. We do not generate numbers for you unless you ask us to run a simple sequence.
Will the barcode still scan after years outdoors?
On anodized aluminum the mark is sealed inside the anodic layer, which is why we recommend it for outdoor and washdown use. Service life is confirmed for the intended environment. We scan-test before shipping.
Can you mark UID or Data Matrix codes?
We can mark the string and symbol you specify — Sequential serials, Code 128, Code 39, QR, Data Matrix, UID strings. We produce to your spec; we do not issue compliance certification.
